Lent is an important season for the church and an important time for self-reflection, growth and prayer. It is preparing our selves for Easter, the most holy and important day of the year. I dont believe giving up something that can be trivial is misguided only because I believe that self-control is like a muscle and excercising that muscle is important. I do feel that during the season of lent a person should not only give up something that is "bad" or brings them further from God, and add something to bring them closer to Him.
So, I have decided to give up sweets. I excercise a lot and have been allowing myself to eat very badly. I want to eat healthy for myself but also as an example to my daughter and husband. I need to eat healthily for nursing and also as Scarlett is eating more solids I want it to be her norm to have healthy foods constantly available to her. My commitment is for my health and the health of my family. God blessed me with a strong healthy body and I want to make sure to appreciate it and keep it that way.
I have also been doing a daily devotional but not spending near the time I should in prayer. So, my very much needed addition will be to spend time prayer after my devotion every morning and more time reflecting on what I am reading.
Im excited about these changes and only believe it will bring good things to our life and home.
