We are officially under contract for a new home. This may come as a surprise to you, beacuse, well, it came as a surprise to us.
Heres the back story. Nick and I decided to buy a home and start looking. We found a great home in Summit, put in an offer and were outbid. Major bummer. We decided to not buy a house anymore because eventually we might move, and I think our spirits were a little crushed from the first home. THEN.... the day I flew home from CA our realtor called with good news, a log cabin was for sale.
A log cabin. Literally, our dream home. We have talked since before we were married about buying or building a log cabin. They are not a very common item, especialy in our price range...so we were not thinking it would happen now of all times.
But it did, and the place was perfect!! Its located in Richmondville about 3 miles from my in-laws house. It sits on 11 acres of land and is back off the street. It feels secluded, surounded by big beautiful trees. The wildlife is all over the land with tracks and poop to show (Im hoping for a bear, but it will be mostly deer). The home is three bedrooms with one bathroom. It is the same style as the first home with a loft bedroom upstairs. It has two sliding glass doors leading to the back deck, and a front deck as well. The kitchen is very... rustic.... but we will improve it as we go. The entire place feels bare, almost as if no one has ever lived there which is perfect for us because it is a blank canvas and we can make it our own. It has an unfinished basement that we hope to finish someday with a laundry room, entertainment room (play room) and bathroom. It uses solar power and isnt even hooked up to the electric company. We will do that ourselves over the next year, but also keep the solar. It feels spacious and bright, although warm with the logs that are red pine.
We couldnt have been more thrilled. We had a bunch of Nicks family (who builds houses and such) come inspect the place and everything looked great. The home is in great condition. Hooray!
We have a few hurdles to get over before our financing will go through such as adding heat to the back bedrooms and railings... But, so far we are approved. We made an offer and accepted her counter offer. The deposit has been paid and we are on our way to owning this log cabin.
We met with our morgatage guy who thinks this is a slam dunk. We are so excited!
